Garden Tools

Garden tools are necessary items for each area and type of gardening. Whether you plant flowers, trees, vegetables, herbs, or fruits, you are not likely to be successful without the proper tools. The four categories of gardening are: tilling, cultivating, planting, and watering. Specific tools have been created for each category to make gardening more convenient and effective.

Tilling is the process of preparing and moving the soil. Depending on where you are planting, you will need different tilling garden tools. Tools like a mattock and pry bar will break soil up in difficult areas, such as around tree roots or in rocky soils. A spading fork is designed to till grassy areas and small gardens.

Cultivating is any job done to maintain the garden, such as weeding and pruning. There are various long fork-like tools that will more effectively pull the weed out at the root than your hand will. When planting, you will obviously need a shovel of some sort, large or small. A hose and watering pot are the best garden tools for watering.

wBefore you get your garden tools, think about what you need to get your jobs done so you don’t buy more than you need. While you are picking them out, get something that will last, it’s worth it to spend a little bit more on a non-plastic shovel. It’s also a good idea to check on-line reviews of tools or talk to other gardeners to see what brands and tools have worked best.
